History

CIT Sandwich Polytechnic College initiated the Diploma Mechanical Engineering programme in the year 1982. The diploma graduates of mechanical engineering have job opportunities in all the manufacturing industries, automobile industries, power plants, casting industries, motor and pump industries, fabrication industries, robotic industries, CNC machining etc. Apart from the job opportunities, they also have the equal opportunities to do higher studies.

Vision

To be a Center of Excellence at the Diploma level in the field of Mechanical Engineering by offering technical education along with entrepreneurial skills, professional and ethical values and contribute to the growth of industry and nation.

Mission

  • To impart sound mechanical engineering knowledge by effective Teaching – Learning methods.
  • To recognize, examine and use design tools and methods in resolving mechanical engineering problems.
  • To prepare the Diploma engineers to adapt for the continuously evolving technology.

Program Outcomes (POs)

  1. Basic and Discipline specific knowledge: Apply knowledge of basic mathematics, science and engineering fundamentals and engineering specialization to solve the engineering problems.
  2. Problem analysis: Identify and analyse well-defined engineering problems using codified standard methods.
  3. Design/ development of solutions: Design solutions for well-defined technical problems and assist with the design of systems components or processes to meet specified needs.
  4. Engineering Tools, Experimentation and Testing: Apply modern engineering tools and appropriate technique to conduct standard tests and measurements.
  5. Engineering practices for society, sustainability and environment: Apply appropriate technology in context of society, sustainability, environment and ethical practices.
  6. Project Management: Use engineering management principles individually, as a team member or a leader to manage projects and effectively communicate about well-defined engineering activities.
  7. Life-long learning: Ability to analyse individual needs and engage in updating in the context of technological changes.

Diploma Engineers will

PEO 1:  possess the technical skills required for the employment in mechanical engineering industries

.PEO 2: have strong technical knowledge in mechanical engineering with motivation to pursue higher education or to become an Entrepreneur

.PEO 3:    practice professional and ethical attitudes to address the societal and environmental needs at the individual level and as a team member

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

PSO 1: Able to apply the knowledge in Machine Design, Manufacturing and Thermal Engineering concepts to meet the needs of the Industries.

PSO 2: Ability to develop and implement innovative ideas in the area of product development with the aid of CAD/CAM software and automated machines.

Lab Facilities

Manufacturing Technology Laboratory

The major equipment of the manufacturing technology laboratory are Lathe, Shaping machine, Milling machine, Grinding machine, Universal drilling machine, Slotting machine, Tool and cutter grinder, Welding machine, Foundry tools etc. The raw material is converted in to finished components as per the required dimensions by using various manufacturing processes available in the manufacturing technology laboratory.

Computer Aided Manufacturing Laboratory

The major equipment of the computer aided manufacturing laboratory are CNC Turning Centre and CNC Milling Centre. The raw material is converted in to finished component by using CNC Programming in the machines CNC Turing Centre and CNC Milling machine. The machine is automated and it is controlled by CNC codes.

CAD Laboratory

The major equipment of the CAD laboratory are computers, modelling softwares AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and CNC Simulation software Fanuc. The mechanical engineering components are modelled in the computer with the help of modelling softwares.

Strength Of Materials Laboratory

The major equipment in the strength of materials laboratory is Universal testing machine, Spring testing machine, Impact testing machine, Hardness testing machine etc. The laboratory analyze the Tensile strength, Hardness and Impact strength of the various metals and non- metals.

Fluid Mechanics Laboratory

The major equipment of the fluid mechanics laboratory are Hydraulic turbine, Centrifugal pump, Reciprocating pump, Venturi meter etc. The various laws governing the fluids flows and the Bernoulli’s theorem are visualized and verified in the fluid mechanics laboratory.

Workshop

The workshop laboratory consists of demonstration and hands-on-training on of fitting practice, carpentry practice, plumbing practice, electrical wiring practice etc.

Process Automation Laboratory

The major equipment of the laboratory are Hydraulic automation system and Pneumatic automation system etc. Few of the activities of the manufacturing processes are partially or fully automated by using Hydraulic and / or Pneumatic system.

Measurement And Metrology Laboratory

The laboratory has demonstration and Hands-on-Training with the use of various measuring instruments like Gear tooth vernier, Bevel protractor, Slip gauges, Vernier height gauge, Vernier depth gauge, Digital micrometer, Digital vernier caliper etc. The laboratory analyze the microstructure of the metals using metallurgical microscope and defects at the surface and subsurface of the components.

Thermal Engineering Laboratory

The major equipment of the thermal engineering laboratory are computerized internal combustion engines testing system, brake power measurement system, heat transfer apparatus, refrigeration system, air conditioning system etc. The laboratory analyze the various modes of heat transfer, frictional power and brake power of an internal combustion engine and refrigeration system.
