The National Service Scheme (NSS) was introduced in Polytechnic Colleges in the State of Tamilnadu in the year 1983-1984. The National Service Scheme in CIT Sandwich Polytechnic College was established in the year 1988. The main aim of the NSS is to involve the Diploma Students on a voluntary basis in various activities of Social Services and National Development, while making a contribution to socio-economic progress. It would also provide opportunities to the students to understand and appreciate the problems of the communities, awaken social consciousness and inculcate in them, sense of dignity of labour. There has been a great deal of enthusiasm among the students in various programmes taken up under the scheme. At the same time, there has been a demand from several sectors that should be provided to the Youth going out of the Universities and Colleges to opportunity engage themselves on a whole time basis for a specific period in activities of social and national service.
Red Ribbon Club at CIT Sandwich Polytechnic College was established in the year 2006. Red Ribbon is an international symbol of HIV/AIDS awareness since 1991. The objective of Red Ribbon Club is to create awareness among students on STD/HIV/AIDS and make them effective peer educators within and outside the campus in collaboration with Tamilnadu State AIDS control society. Red Ribbon Club (RRC) is a movement started by the Government of India in educational institutes through which students will be made aware about AIDS and it stands in support of those who suffer from AIDS. It is a youth initiative on HIV/AIDS. The activities are implemented through the National Service Scheme (NSS) Cell by conducting Awareness Programmes and Blood Donation Camps.
